BP’s previous targets were announced in 2020 as part of a broader plan to comply with the 2015 Paris climate accord. It pledged to transform itself by halting oil and gas exploration in new countries, slashing oil and gas production, and boosting capital spending on low-carbon energy.

This is just another case of the oil industry’s greenwashing claims which on the face of it have rendered overall sentiment towards the industry positive according to our data, despite the truth behind their climate pledges which paints a very different picture indeed.

Whilst it’s no surprise that drinking water and clean water takes up the lion’s share, it’s interesting to see how comparatively little water scarcity is mentioned in this context, an area we expect to see an increased focus on in our data.
