Permutable’s Directional Inflation Sentiment data is now available through Macrobond, covering 95 countries. The dataset measures whether inflation-related news points towards rising or falling price pressure. Aimed at economists, macro researchers and institutional investment teams, it supports cross-country comparisons and analysis alongside official economic releases within the Macrobond application, helping users examine changing inflation narratives through their existing economic research workflows.
We are delighted to announce that Permutable’s Directional Inflation Sentiment, covering 95 countries, is now available through Macrobond. Economists, macro researchers and institutional investment teams can use the dataset to examine changes in inflation-related news alongside the economic series already in their research workflow.
The dataset measures whether inflation-related news points towards rising or falling price pressure. It offers an additional perspective for researchers assessing inflation conditions between official releases and comparing developments across economies.
Published inflation figures provide a central reference for macroeconomic analysis. News about labour markets, production costs, supply constraints and policy provides further information that researchers must assess as it arrives.
Part of Permutable’s Global Macro Sentiment Indices, our Directional Inflation Sentiment organises inflation-related news into a structured measure. Access through Macrobond allows users to compare those readings with established economic indicators and investigate how changes in news-derived pressure relate to subsequent releases.
Wilson Chan, CEO and Founder of Permutable, said: “Researchers often have to reconcile a large amount of inflation-related news with a relatively small number of official releases. We built our Directional Inflation Sentiment Index to make that information more consistent to analyse. Through Macrobond, users can put the readings alongside their existing economic series and examine the relationship for themselves.”
Coverage across 95 countries supports research into differences in inflation pressure between economies. Users can investigate periods when sentiment and official data move together, as well as episodes when the news points in a different direction.
Directional Inflation Sentiment forms part of Permutable’s Global Macro Sentiment Indices, which provide structured measures of macroeconomic news for institutional research.
The availability brings Permutable’s inflation sentiment data into a familiar environment for economic analysis.
Michael Brisley, Chief Commercial Officer at Permutable, said: “For research teams, access is only the beginning. The next question is how a dataset compares with the variables and methods they already rely on. Availability in the Macrobond application helps users make those comparisons within their existing workflow. We can support that evaluation with a discussion of the methodology and the research question they want to test.”
Macrobond users can contact their platform team for access enquiries. Questions about how the data is created, interpreted or applied can be directed to Permutable or the Macrobond team.
